Job Context
The Development Team is responsible for securing land and the necessary permissions to enable the construction of wind turbines. This involves four main stages:
1. The identification of developable sites for wind energy and securing their availability with a land lease
2. Preparing EIA statements and planning applications for wind energy developments, including pre-application consultation and negotiations.
3. Managing submitted planning applications including appeals.
4. Discharging and compliance with planning conditions.
The Development Team has a mid-term target of c.250MW into planning per annum.
Principal Technical Accountabilities:
- Maintain exceptional quality control measures to ensure that all outputs from the Technical Team are of a consistent high standard, able to withstand scrutiny at a Public Inquiry.
- Using AutoCAD undertake the preparation of site plans for new wind energy projects, to a standard and scale suitable for inclusion in planning applications.
- Inputting into the design and layout out of proposed Wind Parks.
- Using WindFarm and the Adobe CS3 package (In-Design / illustrator / Photoshop), prepare photomontages, Zone of Theoretical Visual Influence plans (ZTVs / ZVIs) and to undertake preliminary noise and shadow flicker assessments.
- Using MapInfo and Vertical Mapper to undertake Line of Site Assessments.
- Using AutoTrack undertake detailed access assessments and swept path analysis to identify any remedial measures required to access development sites. - Undertaking miscellaneous technical studies and assessments when required.
- Travel across the UK to undertake site visits and assessments.
- General administrative and routine office support duties for the Technical Team.
- Attendance at public Information Days throughout the UK may be required.
Additional Responsibilities
- Act as an ambassador for the Company and build positive awareness of the company’s activities in all dealings within the industry and with the public, business sectors, non-government organisations, all levels of Government and all customers and contacts.
- Provide an efficient service to External Customers (e.g. Landowners) and Company staff.
- Suggest ideas for the development and growth of the Development Team and the Company.
- Research and develop personnel expertise in wind and renewable energy planning issues in the UK and European context.
- Keep up to date with current legislation, policy development and other issues relevant to the position within the company and renewable energy industry.
Key Skills
- Experience and / or demonstrable aptitude to lead a team to deliver set projects to specific deadlines.
- Essential: Demonstrable skills to undertake the principal accountabilities of this post in two or more of the following packages: AutoCAD, WindFarm / WindFarmer, In-Design / illustrator / Photoshop, MapInfo / ArcGIS, AutoTrack, Sketch-Up Pro.
- An understanding of the theory and principles involved in preparing photomontages and Zone of Theoretical Visual Influence Maps.
- Excellent IT skills with a proven aptitude and willingness to learn new packages.
- Willingness to successfully complete a management training program / various software training, which may include out of office hours work and travel.
- Good communication skills in particular report writing, and the presentation of complex technical information in a clear and logical format;
- Keen interest and commitment to renewable energy. Experience of wind turbine project development, desirable but not essential.
- Flexible team player, with the skills to prioritise own workload and to deliver high quality projects to set deadlines.
- MAC user desirable but not essential.
- An interest in photography desirable but not essential.
- Full Driving License.
