South West
Our client is one of the leading developers of technology to generate electricity from tidal streams. They are currently testing a 500kW prototype device for installation at the European Marine Energy Centre in Orkney in summer 2008. They are working closely with Rolls-Royce both as a technology partner and an investor, and International Power as lead customer. The company plans to have a commercial product available around 2012.
This is an opportunity for a Project Engineer to play a key role in the development of a new renewable energy technology, taking it from early prototypes through to commercial farms. You will be joining a small but expanding team with the backing of a major corporate and opportunities for career development as the company grows.
The Person
Our client is seeking a Project Engineer with strong project management skills. Candidates should be qualified to degree or HND level in mechanical engineering or a related discipline, and have several years experience within industry of managing projects. Good communication skills are required to motivate suppliers, partners and colleagues to achieve programmes.
The role of Project Engineer
Over the next few years our client will be carrying out several projects:
Testing, installation and operation of a 500kW prototype turbine.
Design, manufacture, assembly, installation and testing of a 1MW prototype turbine.
Parallel development programme for possible technology improvements and machine elements.
Production of turbines for an array of turbines to be operated by International Power.
The role of the Project Engineer within these programmes, and others as they arise, will be to:
Develop project plans for the turbine development projects, collating information from the engineering staff, management, suppliers and partners
Maintain and update plans as work progresses.
Report to management on project progress.
Communicate with suppliers, partners, funders and the company to ensure timely delivery of projects to programme.
Visit suppliers and partners as necessary to ascertain and ensure progress.
Plan the resources required to deliver the programmes.
The Project Engineer will report to the Engineering Director, but will work closely with the
Programme Director to ensure that projects fit within the overall company product development programme.
The position is a permanent post based in our clients office in South West England, although the candidate will be expected to travel to visit suppliers and partners within
UK
.
