| Job Title: Electrical Engineer |
| Description |
Electrical Engineer
South West
Our client is one of the leading developers of technology to generate electricity from tidal streams. They are currently designing and building a 500kW prototype device for installation at the European Marine Energy Centre in Orkney. They are working closely with
Rolls-Royce both as a technology partner and an investor, and International Power as lead customer. The company plans to have a commercial product available around 2012.
This is an opportunity for an Electrical Engineer to play a key role in the development of a new renewable energy technology, taking it from prototype through to commercial farms. You will be joining a small but expanding team with the backing of a major corporate and opportunities for career development as the company grows.
The Person
Our client is seeking a keen, dynamic electrical engineer, degree or HND qualified, with at least four years experience in power electrical machines and/or power electronics. Ideally from a wind energy or hydro-electric background, experience of grid code requirements and embedded generation interfaces is essential. The person will have good interpersonal skills and will also be willing to “get their hands dirty” on site. A
UK
driving license and a willingness to spend periods of time on site in Orkney and elsewhere are required.
The Role
The Electrical Engineer will be involved in all the electrical aspects of the company’s technology.
This includes:
• Support in the design of the power train configuration - (generator, power electronics, switchgear, transformers etc), seabed cabling and grid connection/interface aspects.
• Provision of support to other members of the team in areas such as auxiliary power supplies, instrumentation and its associated controls, SCADA systems etc.
• Initial feasibility studies to optimise the power train configuration of the turbine, through to scheme designs, detailed designs, preparation of specifications, supplier identification/audit, management of the tendering process, workshop testing and site commissioning.
• The role will extend beyond the prototype machine to developing and optimising the power systems design for commercial machines.
• Close working with other members of the design team will be required to ensure proper interface with the mechanical / structural aspects.
•
UK
and European travel will be required for periods to visit suppliers and carry out site works. Offshore safety training will be provided as appropriate.
Significant time may be spent on site in Orkney, Edinburgh and other places within the
UK
. The rest of the time would be spent in our client’s office in the South West of England. Offshore safety training will be provided as appropriate.
The Electrical Engineer will report to the Electrical Engineering Manager.
A competitive employment package will be available
