| Job Title: Software Developer - Glasgow |
| Description |
The principal responsibilities of this post are to:
- Ascertain software requirements and develop software specifications.
- Generate design concepts, participate in design reviews, conceptualize architecture, design, develop, and evaluate software modules and tools which are used to support the services offered by SgurrEnergy.
- Develop and implement rigorous software testing procedures to assess performance against design specification, reliability and system interactions.
- Author and review technical documentation and user manuals, train software users, and mentor other software developers in requirements engineering, software planning processes and practices.
- Ensure the consistent application of appropriate development methodologies throughout development life cycle.
- Continuously monitor work to ensure quality.
- Work as an effective member of multidisciplinary teams.
- Exercise independent judgment in developing methods, techniques, and evaluation criterion for obtaining results.
- Search and review literature and patents for relevance to assigned tasks.
- Use company design and coding practices as applied to projects.
- Make plans, and execute and revise these as needed to accomplish assigned tasks and meet expectations of quality and time.
- Understand and use expert practices for software requirements management, development and analysis.
Other duties may include but are not limited to:
* Managing renewable product developments and testing.
* Technical assessment of renewable products.
* Attending client meetings and projects outside the UK.
* Other ad hoc activities as and when required.
Essential criteria
- Degree qualification in Software Engineering, Computer Science or similar.
- Significant postgraduate experience in your field of expertise.
- Technically competent.
- Strong background in PHP, Java, MySQL, WAMP and LAMP server configuration, object oriented programming.
- Knowledge and experience in database design, implementation, maintenance and query optimization.
- Understanding of testing and documentation procedures, and of working within large teams of programmers.
- Experience with multiple development methodologies incorporating whole life-cycle knowledge from design, through implementation, first deployment and updates
- Competent PC user.
- Attention to detail, reliability, good organizational skill.
- Excellent communication skills, coupled with a flexible and proactive approach to work and a willingness to share knowledge to thrive in this busy team.
Desirable criteria
- An interest in renewable energy and/or sustainability.
- Experience with software IP and patents
- Experience with SCADA systems.
- Good general awareness of data analysis and statistics techniques.
- A broad understanding of computer hardware.
- Familiarity with other programming and scripting languages such as Ajax, Javascript, HTML, CSS, Matlab.
- Some knowledge and background in engineering and/or the physical sciences.
- Experience of renewable generation projects.

Hours: 37 hours per week. Occasional evenings to attend meetings.
Holidays: 23 days and 9 public holidays .
Contract: Permanent after 3 month probationary period.
