Job specification
 

Our client has taken a decision to target the rapidly developing civil nuclear power market. This represents a significant initiative and is intended to allow them to extend and develop their nuclear expertise into new markets for the Company. Their strategy is to exploit existing nuclear capabilities to create a business focusing on new build manufacturing and services, in service reactor plant support and lifetime extension, and future concept development activities.

These positions are available at their new office in Risley, Warrington.

Person specification
 

We require engineers from all disciplines of electrical, electronic, instrumentation and sensor/detector engineering to specify, design, develop, test and support control, instrumentation and protection systems and equipment to be fitted to new civil nuclear reactors.

Responsibilities
 

• Detailed design, specification and integration of electrical, control and instrumentation (EC&I) systems.
• Design substantiation of EC&I with respect to design standards, component quality and reliability.
• Liaison with suppliers (internal and external) to ensure components are cost-effectively manufactured to meet design requirements.
• Undertake risk assessments in accordance with UK legislation.
• Undertake fault analysis and reliability assessments using recognised techniques including FMEA, FTA, HAZID, HAZOP.
• Production of safety justifications of EC&I systems/components.

Experience

• Degree qualified applicants with a bias towards electrical/electronic engineering, instrumentation sensors/detectors or electrical safety & reliability.
• Experience in one more of the following areas; nucleonics; sensors/detectors; analogue and digital systems and hardware, and software.
• A comprehensive understanding of EC&I system design with knowledge of the design standards applicable to the nuclear industry would be an advantage.
• Knowledge of the justification of safety critical control and instrumentation in accordance with BS EN 61508.
• Experience of working within defence, nuclear or other high integrity industries.
• Good communication skills are essential as well as the ability to work as part of a team. Ability to work to process and procedure is mandatory, and PC literacy is crucial.
