Job title: Turbine Monitoring Engineer

Workplace description: This opportunity affords the candidate all the benefits of working for a world class company employing some 76000 people. It is a happy working environment where the order book is reassuringly full!
My client's core activity is to deliver complex infrastructure projects. To succeed on numerous, wide-scale projects, and implement state-of-the-art technology and equipment, we need strong, dedicated teams. My client's Human Resources strategy is based on three core values defined thanks to a large participation from its employees:
Trust
Team
Action
These values bring all my client's employees together in a shared culture, and aim to inspire a strong feeling of belonging to a single unified organisation. At the top of my client's priority list for sustainable development is people development, recognition of employees' individual and collective contribution, and commitment to health and safety.
The company's guidelines are therefore to communicate with transparency, continuously manage and develop people, be accountable and work as a team. You would be working with a company that is the world leader in integrated power plant, in power production services and air quality control systems. My client works with all energy forms such as: coal, gas, nuclear, fuel-oil, hydropower, wind and is a leader in environmental protection (reduction of CO2 emissions, reduction of nitrogen oxide emissions). The Group is also developing CO2 capture processes that could lead to commercial scale in the medium term. Accomplishments include:
A record 38 gas turbines, including 18 GT26 and a major contract for steam turbines and generators in a coal power plant in South Africa.
An order for four conventional islands in Chinese nuclear power plants and several hydro projects in Brazil, China, Vietnam and Uganda.
In the Power Service Sector my client signed:
10 operation and maintenance contracts (mainly for gas-fired power plants) and many small and medium sized orders, notably in Europe and USA.
Main duties and responsibilities: Design of turbine monitoring systems, configuration of system hardware and definition of software characterisation, specification and preparation of tenders, project management of a range of TSE projects, technical liaison both within and with our external customers, servicing requests for spares and repairs of installed equipment. The work involved is varied and challenging and involves design work and technical problem solving together with an element of customer contact and some travel in the UK, Asia, Africa and north America. The role carries a high level of technical responsibility.
Essential criteria: Candidates should be qualified to degree level in electrical/electronics engineering and ideally have chartered engineer status; have a background in steam or gas turbine monitoring preferably but not necessarily gained from a power station background and have both design as well as practical site experience; have general knowledge of control and instrumentation (C&I) engineering, be customer focussed and have good organisational, presentation and communication skills.
Accommodation provided: No, but a relocation package maybe offered dependant on role.
Meals provided: This varies dependant on role but would either be hotel expenses including meals or an allowance.
Benefits and how are they paid:
Competitive remuneration and benefit package including: Life insurance, early retirement and BUPA for senior roles; opportunity for overseas travel; flexible working arrangement; career development opportunities; operating in a multi-cultural environment.
Pension: Contributory with details available on application
Uniform: Safety clothing provided when required
Next pay review and on what basis: Annual
Prospects for promotion: Excellent
Number of days per week: Office based roles 5 out of 7.
